ON THIS DAY IN HORROR - June 6th
"WILLOW CREEK" released in US in 2014
The trailer for Willow Creek states there are currently over 400 unsolved missing persons cases within the US national parks of which the bodies are never found. Cut to a happy couple driving into the Six Rivers National Forest for a romantic getaway and you just know how their camping weekend is going to end!
Couple Kelly (Alexie Gilmore) and Jim (Bryce Johnson) head deep into the national park, with their video camera in tow, in hopes of getting their own Bigfoot footage. They are following in the footsteps of the real-life Patterson–Gimlin film from 1967 which purporting showed a Sasquatch striding along a dry sandbar beside Bluff Creek. At Willow Creek, apparantly the Bigfoot capital of the world and home to an annual Bigfoot festival, the locals continuously warn them to stay out of the woods - like that's going to happen.
Directing this found footage film is Bobcat Goldthwait, better known for his acting in the Police Academy movies, who does deliver a very effective horror film. Most noteworthy is the 21-minuite single take of the tent scene during the characters first night in the woods that provides chills galore. Reviews were also mainly positive with with the consensus "Writer-director Bobcat Goldthwait's first foray into horror doesn't break any new ground, but it does wring fresh terror from a well-worn genre formula—and offers a few nasty laughs in the bargain."
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 86%
